formation
Say hi to a neighbor! This hairy beast is the nearby spiral galaxy, NGC 253, seen almost on edge. You're looking at clumpy clouds of gas, and bright, young star clusters recently formed in the center. This galaxy was discovered by Caroline Herschel in 1783 while searching for comets.
