Happy Holidays
The nice folks at the National Solar Observatory were very excited to share this image of
the sun captured by the Improved Solar Optical Observing Network (ISOON) telescope at the National Solar Observatory atop
Sacramento Peak at Sunspot, N.M. They sent us all the info, full of big, important-sounding phrases like “remotely commandable
patrol telescope” and “hydrogen-alpha light,” but neglected to mention a thing about the jolly fat man and his eight tiny reindeer
seen streaking across the star we call the sun. We can’t imagine why they left Old Saint Nick out, but we here at The Why Files
enjoyed the photo and hope you do, too.
